This is why you have to set the files to read-only mode, to force the game to use those copies when it sends them back to the cloud. Just deleting the files and letting the game rebuild won't fix it, since it grabs it off a cloud service, and if they're already corrupt on your machine, they're corrupted on the servers. The problem is getting those save file copies. The way I fixed it was I had a friend send me a copy of their customchars, forced the files to be read only, and then booted the game.
